Health & Safety Classes

To register for a class, Please call 1-800-RED CROSS (733-2767)
and select option 5.

ALL Lifeguard, CPR/First Aid & Water Safety Instructor Training:
Classes have a required minimum of 6 participants and a maximum
of 15 participants. Early registration is required.

Lifeguard Training: Requirements:
      
-Must be at least 15 years old
      -Must be able to swim 300 yards continuously
      -Must be able to retrieve 10 lb. object from the bottom of the
       pool and swim with it   for 20 yards
      -Demonstrate each lifeguard skill satisfactorily
      -Attend all class times with proper materials
      -Participation in class does not guarantee successful
       completion of course

time of need. It is preparation for Disaster Relief in the local area, the
Region and the Nation.

Disaster Services -
Overview - Instructor-led, basic level course that
provides an introduction to Disaster Services at the American Red Cross. The
course engages participants through integrated video and interactive activities.
The course has two modules; the second module is designed for chapters to
customize with their local Disaster Services program information. ** Disaster
Services: Overview is a prerequisite for ALL other disaster classes.

Shelter Operations – Instructor-led course designed for the
learners to acquire knowledge of Red Cross policies & procedures for
setting up, running & closing a shelter during a disaster. This course
prepares you to manage shelter operations effectively & sensitively as a
team while meeting the needs of people displaced as a result of a
disaster.

Shelter Simulation - Instructor-led simulation, with the purpose of
learning to apply knowledge, skills & abilities required to operate a
successful shelter.

Client Casework: Providing Emergency Assistance – You are
trained how to conduct effective client interviews & provide appropriate
assistance to help meet a client’s immediate disaster-caused or disaster-
aggravated needs. The class consists of a series of short instructor &
video presentations interleaved with class discussions, which focus on
the skills, knowledge & attitudes required of a Red Cross caseworker.

Fundamentals of Disaster Assessment – This class is a
blended learning course consisting of 2 components, online & instructor-
led.  The purpose of this course is to introduce the critical role of
Disaster Assessment, explore related preparedness tasks, and learn
how to collect & communicate disaster assessment information, &
become familiar with how disaster assessment information supports
management & service decisions.

ERVs: Ready, Set, Roll – This course is designed to provide
learners with the opportunity to learn about & use an Emergency
Response Vehicle (ERV) & all related equipment. You’ll be prepared to
operate an ERV & its equipment safely & effectively to meet feeding &
other service needs of people affected by disaster.  REQUIRED:  a
Valid Driver’s license, Satisfactory DMV Report & Defensive Driving
Course Certificate.
